Will there be issues around availability of catch certificates from member states?

  • Defra say they are committed to ensuring that EU stakeholders are aware of the changes required and have put the appropriate systems in place, as the UK has done to facilitate trade to the EU.
  • They have engaged EU businesses through a comprehensive programme of events (September until December) as well as operational discussions with individual member states. Additionally, the government’s EU facing marketing campaign ‘Keep Business Moving” targets EU traders and includes agri-food messages.
  • They encourage importers to engage with their EU exporters to make sure they are prepared to produce the required documentation.
  • They have written to the EU to notify them of our legal requirements under the UK’s IUU regulations, and will write again shortly with copies and templates of UK’s IUU documentation.
  • Our communications team have started work aimed at EU exporters in explaining the UK’s IUU documentary requirements from 1st Jan 2021.
