Will checks be done on live animals at the Border?

No, from January 2021 documentary checks for live animals will be carried out remotely. APHA will carry out identity and physical checks on EU imports of live animals at their destination based on assessments of biosecurity and public health risks.

Physical checks will take place at the point of destination on all high-risk live animals and 10% of low-risk live animals.

From March 2022,once there is sufficient Border Control Post (BCP) capacity, these checks are expected to be a carried out at a BCP.
